Jim Butler is the former Chief Procurement Officer for the State of California where he oversaw statewide procurement policy, acquisitions, engineering, training, socioeconomic programs, and strategic partnerships. Mr. Butler served as California's CPO for nearly nine years and was appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger in 2008 and reappointed by Governor Brown in 2010.
Mr. Butler also was Director of Procurement Services at San Francisco based Levi Strauss & Co. where he worked from 2002 until 2007, Senior Manager with Dell Computer Corporation in Austin, Texas from 1996 to 2001, and Manager of Client Support at Asia Pacific Ventures in Menlo Park, California from 1993 to 1996.
Mr. Butler holds a Bachelor of Arts in Japanese and an MBA, both from Brigham Young University, as well as the Certified Professional of Supply Management credential from the Institute for Supply Management. He was elected as President of NASPO in 2016 after serving on the board of directors for four years.
